A trip to town.

It's Summer. It's summer in East Texas. If the temperature hasn't made it to 100, you can bet the humidity has. Our small trailer that we live in has little to no insulation, so by 9 in the morning the temperature in the trailer has reached 80+ and the "central A/C" simply can't keep up with the heat. Most days we just endure it and huddle around the fan, but today I could tell Mom was restless and wanted to get out of the house, so that's what we did. Everyone loaded up in the truck and we drove to What-A-Burger. The air inside is beautiful. The seats are plastic so it even cools off your backside. We ordered shakes for me and my nephew, and a sweet tea for mom (no ice). We are finally comfortable, or so i think we are. I can see Mom is physically shaking. I leaned over to ask if she was OK, and she smiles and says she's fine. I know this isn't true, she's freezing. Then I realize why she wanted to leave the house today. The 80+ temperature in our house is just fine for her. The chemo and her age and her thinning blood make it difficult for her body to regulate its temperature. She enjoys the warmer temperature in the home, but she wanted to make a trip to town so that my nephew and I could cool down and be comfortable for a few hours. She did all this at her own expense. I could tell that my nephew and i had reached this same conclusion at the same time, so we both complained of being too cold and asked if she was ready to leave. You could see the relief in her eyes and she nodded yes. I rolled the windows down instead of using the A/C in the truck. I am happier to make a trip home than i am to make a trip to town.
